Sample Exit List - How to understand the Exit Lists
|
The "Exit Lists" button on the navigation bar will lead to the state pages. These pages will list all freeways within the state's boundaries.
The freeways presented on the page will have individual pages that the viewer can select.
Each link for a given freeway will direct the viewer to an individual section of the freeway traveling in one direction (North, South, West,
East). The page will travel from one freeway junction to the next freeway junction. The only exceptions are when the freeway ends or turns
into a highway and when a freeway reaches a state boundary (a page break will occur).
The result of this format is that the viewer can jump from an exit list for one freeway to a list for an intersecting freeway and easily
understand where they are on the list and in which direction they are traveling along the list.
An example list section is provided below. It will explain the format in better detail.

EASTBOUND FROM Pena Blvd TO
|
The top bar of the list will
display what highway you are
on and in which direction you
are travelling. In this case, it is
Interstate 70 Eastbound.
The highway shield will link
back to the state page.
The top bar will also list from
where this segement of the
list starts (Pena Blvd) and ends
(E-470).
From here the list will list the
exits in sequence to the end of
the segment (E-470).
This list begins after the junction
with the Pena Blvd Freeway.
The exits on the list are shown on
the map.
The list reaches Exit 289. Note the
traffic light, this doesn't mean
that I-70 traffic must stop. It
means that list will allow you to
jump to the E-470 segements, but
you will pass through a traffic
light when you exit the freeway.
If there were a traffic light in the
box that contains the exit #, it
indicates that the highway you
are on will pass through a traffic
light.
By passing the option of travelling
along E-470, you can proceed
east along I-70 by clicking the link
at the bottom of the page.
The link will lead you to the
next segement of I-70 eastbound.

Exit List in the opposite Direction
|
Most exit lists on the web will list both directions on the same page. In order to deliver a format in
which the viewer can jump to different highways more easily, the lists are broken into segments.
Exits eastbound are on a seperate page from the westbound exits. Below is the same segment of the
highway only in the only in the opposite direction, westbound.

OK, so here we have the

Only this time heading
westbound.

The exits follow up to
Pena Blvd.
|
Here we have the exit for Pena
Blvd. There is no freeway - to -
freeway connection, so no link
is offered. If there were a
connection there would be a
window at the bottom offering
an option to either head west
on I-70 or to head east on Pena
Blvd. If that were the case the
Chambers Rd exit would follow
the "junction split" because
Pena Blvd traffic merging onto
I-70 West would not have the
opportunity to take the
Chambers Rd Exit. You can
see on the map the ramp
leaving I-70 West for Chambers
Rd before the ramp from
Pena Blvd connects to I-70 West.
|
The link here at the bottom will
take you to the next segement.
